The aim of the department is to equip students with the skills and knowledge in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Interactive Media needed for a future in which digital technology is fully embedded, while inspiring them to develop an understanding that goes beyond simply using interfaces to appreciating how systems work and are created. We strive to foster a love of learning and help students recognise that there are no limits to their potential, with a strong emphasis on problem-solving through the strands of computational thinking, enabling them to approach challenges logically and creatively and understand the importance of building skills progressively. Online safety is a key priority, ensuring students develop responsible habits that become second nature and allow them to protect themselves and others. At Key Stage 3, students build a strong foundation in core computing concepts such as abstraction, logic, algorithms, and data representation, learning to analyse problems computationally and write programs to solve them, while being given opportunities to apply their knowledge independently so they become confident, creative, and responsible users of technology.
