year 7

Autumn Term – Respectful Relationships

In Autumn 1 students will learn what RSE is and some of the topics that they will cover. They will then look at consent and boundaries. This will be an introduction and will mainly talk about consent in terms of friendships and how they can develop boundaries. Students will then discuss what a respectful relationship is and talk about which behaviours are respectful in a range of different types of relationship.

In Autumn 2 students will learn about what makes a good friend, the qualities and behaviours which are seen as positive. Students will then move on to discussing how to manage friendships and fallouts. They will finish by looking at banter, discussing whether ‘banter’ is a type of bullying and when it might cross the line.

 

Spring Term – Health and Wellbeing/Intimate and Sexual Relationships

In Spring 1 students will be looking at puberty. This will build on their knowledge from primary school. They will discuss and look at puberty from different perspectives and how it might be different for different people. They will also look at the importance of cleanliness and hygiene as they move through puberty.

In Spring 2 students will discuss romance and love, the emotions that surround these. They will also learn about how puberty means that they might start to have sexual feelings.

 

Summer Term – Keeping Safe

In Summer 1 students will discuss how to keep safe. They will start with looking at their online presence and the dangers surrounding that. They will also talk about cyberbullying, what it is and where to get help if they are experiencing it.

In Summer 2 students will look at the idea of family. They will discuss what a family is and what the roles and responsibilities of parents and children are. They will also look at marriage and alternatives to marriage.

year 8

Autumn Term – Respectful Relationships

In Autumn 1 students will discuss what makes a healthy relationship. They will also look at dealing with conflict, sexual orientation and gender identity.

In Autumn 2 we will be thinking about diversity and inclusion. Looking at prejudice and discrimination and issues such as homophobia.

 

Spring Term – Intimate and Sexual Relationship

In Spring 1 students will discuss what we mean by the term ‘love’ and they will start to look at issues surrounding sexual relationships. We will look at the concept of consent and begin to look at contraception.

In Spring 2 we will look at pregnancy and what it means to be a teenage parent.

 

Summer Term – Keeping Safe/Respectful Relationships

In Summer 1 students will learn about keeping safe. They will discuss how to recognise the signs of an abusive relationships and what harassment is. We will also go through a lesson on child abuse, making sure that students know how to seek help.

In Summer 2 students will look at the issues surrounding sending images online. They will also look at domestic conflict and FGM.

year 9

Autumn Term – Respectful Relationships

In Autumn 1 students will look at bullying and body shaming, encouraging students to be respectful of others. They will also learn about different ideas surrounding being a man and masculinity and well as the LGBTQIA+ community and women’s rights.

In Autumn 2 we will have lessons on the penis and vulva as well as discussing how puberty and changing bodies can impact on self-esteem.

 

Spring Term – Respectful Relationships

In Spring 1 Students will be looking at divorce and how relationships sometimes breakdown. They will also discuss prejudice and discrimination, including what the law says and how these laws protect us.

In Spring 2 we will be discussing sexual violence, harassment, and stalking. Students will learn how to recognise these and what help is available.

 

Summer Term – Intimate and Sexual Relationships

In Summer 1 students will revisit the concept of consent, consolidating their previous learning. They will then look at STIs and contraception.

In Summer 2 students will do some further work looking at different contraceptive methods. They will then move on to talk about HIV and AIDS and the discrimination that has surrounded this virus.

year 10

Autumn Term – Respectful Relationships/Being Safe

In Autumn 1 students will look at how to manage conflict. They will also discuss relationships and relationship break-ups. Finally, they will look at the Me-Too Movement.

In Autumn 2 we will look at being safe. Students will revisit the topic of FGM. They will also look at domestic abuse and forced marriages.

 

Spring Term – Online and Media/Respectful Relationships/Intimate and Sexual Relationships

In Spring 1 students will be looking at the sexualisation of the media – including sexting and pornography – discussing how this influences real life relationships.

In Spring 2 students will be discussing revenge porn, learning where help is available and the legal implications. We will also talk about delaying sex.

 

Summer Term – Intimate and Sexual Relationships

In Summer 1 Students will be learning about rape and sexual abuse. They will also look at the potential pleasure of sex and same-sex relationships.

In Summer 2 students will be learning about testicular and breast cancers. They will also look at abortion, STIs and peer pressure in regard to sex.

year 11

Autumn Term – Respectful Relationships/Being Safe

In Autumn 1 students will look at peer-on-peer (child-on-child) abuse – what it is and what help is available.  They will also discuss respect and relationships and different types of relationships. Finally, they will look at toxic masculinity.

In Autumn 2 we will look at being safe. Students will discuss issues such as acid attacks and cybercrime.

 

Spring Term – Intimate and Sexual Relationships

In Spring 1 students will look at consent and harassment. They will also look at safe sex and chem sex, fertility and the menopause.

In Spring 2 students will think about how alcohol can lead to bad decisions in relation to sex. They will also discuss what we mean by ‘healthy’ sex.

 

Summer Term – Intimate and Sexual Relationships

In Summer 1 we will be discussing the importance of sexual health, contraception and STIs.
