Telford Langley School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of all students and expects and staff and volunteers to share this commitment to maintain a vigilant and safe environment. Everyone has a responsibility to act without delay to protect children by reporting anything that might suggest a child is being abused or neglected. It is our willingness to work safely and challenge inappropriate behaviours that underpins this commitment.

We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent, effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, students and staff at school. All Telford and Wrekin schools, including The Telford Langley School, follow the Telford and Wrekin Safeguarding Partnership procedures.

If you have any concerns about the safety of a child at The Telford Langley School then please contact one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads.

Communication with parents

The school will, in most circumstances, endeavour to discuss all concerns with parents about their children. However, there may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Social Care and/or the Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures). The school will, of course, always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents.

curriculum

Child safety issues and child protection will be addressed through the curriculum where appropriate, especially through Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), Computing and Online Safety, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE).

We use a variety of resources and approaches to teach the children how to keep themselves safe, build their resilience and manage risks.

The curriculum includes an emphasis on relationships (relationships and sex education), building confidence and resilience in pupils and in developing preventative strategies to ensure their own protection and that of others. Clear advice and guidance is built into the curriculum to ensure that pupils understand that there is a range of contacts they can turn to for advice and support and that they know where and how to report abuse.
