Inspiring minds, engaging learners, supporting success in Mathematics

At Telford Langley, the Mathematics Department is a cohesive and supportive team, committed to developing pupils’ fluency, confidence and deep mathematical understanding. The curriculum is coherently sequenced, drawing on the White Rose Maths framework to ensure a structured progression of knowledge and skills. A strong emphasis is placed on regular retrieval practice—such as low-stakes quizzing and interleaving—to secure long-term retention and build connections across topics. As a result, pupils make progress over time, with outcomes that reflect secure understanding and increasing attainment across all key stages.
Teaching is underpinned by explicit modelling, guided practice and the use of concrete–pictorial–abstract representations to develop conceptual understanding. Skilled questioning and responsive feedback address misconceptions and deepen learning. High expectations and engaging lessons enable pupils to articulate and justify their reasoning using precise mathematical language. Pupils apply their knowledge to both routine and non-routine problems, developing resilience, curiosity and a sustained enthusiasm for mathematics, which is reflected in improved outcomes and readiness for the next stage of education.
